Video trilogy by Varsha Nair. 2003
Not so long ago, by sending text messages using mobile telephones, Philippinos gathered together to demonstrate and campaign successfully to oust Mr. Estrada who was their President at that time. More recently, employing similar tactics and saying a firm no to commercialization of a nationally revered sport, people in India sent messages to each other to boycott goods advertised by the Indian Cricket team after it performed miserably against Australia in the one-day World Cup Cricket series.
Mobile phones have become an essential part of our lives today, virtually part of our palms and an extension of our fingers. On a more personal level, mobile phones play a big part in conveying and storing very private human emotions and interactions to communicate in any and every situation in one’s life.
Filmed over a period of 4 months, this video film trilogy documents some moments in the life of a close friend of mine.
